May and June in our Suburban Food Forest Garden

May and June have been full of gorgeous citrus, hearty pumpkins, and sweet passionfruit...

Glorious weekend breakfasts down by the frog pond...

Harvests of fresh ginger....

Handfuls of chillis...

And for our chooks - much fun having dirt baths!

Wow, check out that pawpaw tree! You better start looking for recipes :-).

What time of year did you plant ginger? I tried last month but it hasn't sprouted so I suspect the timing was off.

Hi Liesel, you need to plant ginger when the soil is pretty warm. Here in Wollongong I plant it out around November and harvest it about this time of year when the plant dies back down for the winter.

I always feel so inspired whenever I check out your blog. The fruit and veges look amazing. What you have done with a suburban 'gong' back yard is awesome. Keep inspiring.

Love the chickens!
I was just wondering- have you tried 'espalier' style of growing trees in your backyard? Any thoughts on this style?

Never tried espalier as we have a large block to grow full canopied trees. I guess it would be good if space was tight and you had a suitable wall to espalier.
